Terms of Use & License Agreement
Effective: June 14, 2026
1. Agreement
These terms are an agreement between you and Storypole (“we”, “us”), operator of storypole.app, reachable at hello@storypole.app. By using the Storypole website or application (hosted at storypole.app or as a downloaded copy), you agree to these terms. If you do not agree, do not use Storypole.
2. What Storypole is
Storypole is a budget, schedule and project-control tracker for building and renovation projects. It runs in your web browser and stores its data on your device; an optional feature syncs your data to your own Google Drive. Storypole is a tool for organizing information you enter — it does not provide professional advice of any kind.
3. Your license to use Storypole
We grant you a personal, non-exclusive, non-transferable, revocable license to use Storypole — including any downloaded single-file copy — for managing your own projects (personal or in the course of your own business).
This license does not permit you to:
- sell, rent, sublicense, or redistribute Storypole, or offer it (or a modified copy) as your own product or service;
- remove or alter Storypole branding, credits or notices for redistribution purposes;
- use the Storypole name or logo to imply endorsement;
- use Storypole for unlawful purposes.
One thing in your favor, by design: because the app is a single self-contained file, a copy you have already downloaded keeps working on your own devices on its own — it needs no server, account, website, or connection from us to run. We built it that way on purpose, and nothing we do can take that away from a copy you already hold. This is not a promise to keep the website, the hosted app, sales, sync, or updates available — those may end at any time (see section 11), and the downloaded copy is provided “as is,” with no obligation on us to maintain, update, or support it.
4. Free and premium
The core of Storypole is free to use. Premium features (such as cross-device sync via your own Google Drive, multiple properties, Excel export/import and PDF reports) are unlocked by a one-time purchase of a license key. Prices and what's included are described on the pricing section at the time of purchase.
- Payments are processed by an independent payment provider acting as the merchant of record — currently Lemon Squeezy; their checkout terms apply to the transaction itself.
- A license key is for your personal use across your own devices — it can be active on up to 5 devices at a time (deactivate one in Settings to free a slot). Don't publish or resell keys.
- We may revoke license keys obtained fraudulently (including chargeback abuse), shared publicly, resold, or used in violation of these terms. Revocation disables premium features only — your data always remains yours, viewable and exportable.
- Refunds: if premium doesn't work out for you, contact us within 14 days of purchase for a full refund, no questions asked.
5. Your data and your responsibility
Your project data is stored on your device (see our Privacy Policy). That design gives you full ownership — and it also means you are in charge of keeping it safe:
- Use the built-in backup tools (JSON backup, the full backup .zip — which also includes your photos — the linked auto-save file, or Drive sync). Clearing your browser's site data without a backup deletes your data, and photos live only on this device unless included in a full backup or synced to Drive.
- Figures in Storypole are figures you entered. Verify amounts, dates and calculations against your contracts and invoices before relying on them.
- We are not responsible for data loss caused by your device, browser, operating system, cloud provider, or missing backups.
6. Not professional advice
Storypole does not provide financial, accounting, tax, legal, engineering, architectural or construction advice. Forecasts, projections and schedule calculations are arithmetic on your own inputs, not predictions or guarantees. Decisions about your project, your money and your contractors are yours alone — made, we hope, with better information.
7. Third-party services
Optional features rely on third parties we don't control: Google (Drive sync and sign-in), a public CDN (the Excel converter library), and the payment provider's license service (premium activation and periodic validation). Their availability, terms and policies are theirs. If they change or discontinue their services, the dependent Storypole features may stop working; the core app is built to keep working regardless.
8. No warranty
Storypole is provided “as is” and “as available”, without warranties of any kind, express or implied — including merchantability, fitness for a particular purpose and non-infringement. We do not warrant that the app will be error-free, uninterrupted, secure, or that defects will be corrected. Software has bugs; assume this one does too, and keep backups accordingly. Some jurisdictions don't allow certain warranty exclusions, so parts of this section may not apply to you.
9. Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, we accept no liability whatsoever for any damage or loss arising from your use of (or inability to use) Storypole. Without limiting that sentence, this expressly includes any loss or damage caused by:
- software bugs, defects, errors or malfunctions of any kind;
- data loss or disappearance — including data removed by your browser, operating system, device failure, cleared site data, or failed storage;
- data duplication, corruption, mismatch, or accidental deletion — including sync conflicts between devices, unintended file overwrites caused by concurrent browser sessions, overwritten changes, stale copies, or inconsistencies between the app, backups, exports and your Google Drive;
- incorrect, miscalculated or misleading figures, totals, forecasts, schedules or reports, whatever their cause;
- unavailability or misbehavior of third-party services (Google, CDNs, hosting);
- your reliance on anything the app displays when making project, financial or contractual decisions;
- indirect, incidental, special or consequential damages of any kind — including project losses, cost overruns, missed deadlines and lost profits.
If, despite the above, liability is nonetheless established, our total aggregate liability for all claims combined is limited to the amount you paid us in the twelve months before the claim (zero for free use). Nothing in these terms excludes liability that cannot lawfully be excluded; if any part of this section is held unenforceable, the remainder stays in force to the fullest lawful extent.
10. Intellectual property
The Storypole application, name, logo and website content are our property. Open-source components are credited on the homepage footer and used under their respective licenses. Your project data is yours — these terms give us no rights to it (and, by design, no access to it). If you send us feedback or suggestions, we may use them without obligation to you.
11. Changes and termination
We may update Storypole and these terms; material changes will be flagged on this page with a new effective date, and continued use means acceptance. We may suspend access to the hosted service for abuse of these terms. You can stop using Storypole at any time — your data is on your device and exportable; nothing is held hostage.
We may also change, suspend, or permanently discontinue the website, the hosted application, sales, premium licensing, and the optional sync service — in whole or in part — at any time and for any reason, with or without notice, and without liability to you. We are under no obligation to keep the website online or to continue offering Storypole for sale. Your locally stored data and any copy you have already downloaded are unaffected: they stay on your device, and you can export them at any time.
12. Governing law
These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Israel, without regard to conflict-of-law rules, and disputes belong to the competent courts of Israel. Mandatory consumer-protection rules of your country of residence remain unaffected.
13. Miscellaneous
- Entire agreement. These terms and our Privacy Policy constitute the entire agreement between you and us regarding Storypole, and supersede any prior agreements, conversations, correspondence or understandings.
- Severability. If any provision of these terms is found by a court to be invalid or unenforceable, that provision will be limited or eliminated to the minimum extent necessary, and the remaining provisions continue in full force and effect.
- No waiver. Our failure to enforce any right or provision of these terms is not a waiver of that right or provision.
