Our commitment
Storypole is a personal project built with care, not a large company with a dedicated accessibility team. We nonetheless treat broad usability as a core goal and measure ourselves against the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.1, level AA — the standard most widely referenced by accessibility law in the EU and the US.
What's built in today
- Adjustable text size. Settings → Accessibility lets you scale the whole interface up or down; on phones the default size is already enlarged for readability.
- Reduced motion. A toggle removes non-essential animation, and the app also respects your operating system's "reduce motion" setting automatically.
- High-contrast mode and a full dark theme (light, dark, or follow-the-system).
- Keyboard support. Interactive controls are reachable and operable with the keyboard, focus is clearly outlined, dialogs trap focus while open and return it when closed, and Escape closes the topmost dialog.
- Screen-reader labelling. Buttons and icon controls carry text labels, the page language is declared, and decorative icons are hidden from assistive technology so they aren't read aloud as clutter.
- Readable colour. Body text and status colours are chosen to meet AA contrast in both light and dark themes.
Known limitations
We're honest about where we fall short and are working to close these:
- A few small inline icon controls are coded as labelled, keyboard-operable elements rather than native buttons. They are reachable and activatable, but the underlying markup is not yet ideal for every assistive technology.
- Some charts — the cash-flow and forecast graphics — convey information visually that we have not yet fully described in text. The Gantt timeline now carries a spoken summary (phase count, date span, and critical path), and the same numbers are always available in the tables and lists alongside every visual.
- We have not yet completed a formal third-party audit; our conformance claim is based on our own testing.
For these reasons we describe Storypole as partially conformant with WCAG 2.1 AA: most of the standard is met, with the gaps above outstanding.
Tell us about a barrier
If any part of Storypole is hard or impossible for you to use, please let us know — it helps us prioritise. Email support@storypole.app with what you were trying to do, the device and assistive technology you were using, and what got in the way. You can also use the Report a problem button in the app's Settings. We aim to respond within a few days.
Changes
As we improve the app, we'll update this statement and the limitations above. The effective date always reflects the current version.
